The Sierra de San Vicente is the estate's backdrop: the view from the terraces points straight at it. It's a small mountain range between the Tiétar and Alberche valleys, with around twenty villages that live on rural tourism and quiet, half an hour away by car.
What you'll find
- El Real de San Vicente, with the Church of Santa Catalina and the trail up to the ruins of the Castle of San Vicente, with wide views over the district.
- Castillo de Bayuela, home to the Nature and Heritage Interpretation Centre of the Sierra de San Vicente.
- Piélago, a base for outdoor camps and activities for groups.
- Chestnut, oak and holm oak woodland, home to the imperial eagle, the black stork and the black vulture.
A gentle hiking plan
None of the sierra's trails is demanding for a fit group, which makes it easy to combine different ages in the same plan: older relatives who prefer a short walk and children who want to reach the castle. Autumn and winter, when the estate's pool is closed, are the best time to enjoy it, with the chestnut trees changing color and cooler weather for walking.

- Best season
- Autumn and winter, for the chestnut colors and mild temperatures
- The trail to the Castle of San Vicente, from El Real de San Vicente, is the most popular one and needs no previous mountain experience.
- The sierra's villages keep traditional stone and slate buildings, quite different from the architecture of the Tagus valley.
- In spring, the chestnut trees in bloom and fuller streams change the landscape considerably compared with summer.
- Mobile signal is patchy in some of the more remote stretches, so it helps to agree a meeting point in advance if the group splits up.
A plan for the whole day
The sierra lends itself to a morning hike followed by lunch in one of the villages, many of which keep the stone and slate architecture typical of the area. If the group has enough cars, it's worth splitting between two or three different villages in the same day rather than staying in just one: El Real de San Vicente for the castle trail, Castillo de Bayuela for the interpretation centre, and a smaller village for a quiet lunch away from weekend traffic.
