The Barrancas de Burujón is a landscape that surprises the first time you see it: reddish clay ravines carved by water, with cliffs up to 120 meters above the Castrejón reservoir, earning it the nickname "the Grand Canyon of Castilla-La Mancha." It was declared a Natural Monument in 2010 to protect this unique landscape, 35 minutes from the estate.
How to visit
- The ecological trail starts at the car park at kilometer 26 of the CM-4000 road.
- The Mirador del Cambrón, about two kilometers from the start, has the best-known view over the ravines and the reservoir.
- The route ends at the Mirador de los Enebros, from where a narrower path leads down to the reservoir shore.
- The main viewpoints are adapted for reduced mobility; the rest of the trail is a dirt path.
The best time of day
The low light of late afternoon brings out the clay's reddish color best, which is why this is one of the most photographed sunsets in the province. Fishing and boating on the reservoir are banned to protect the birds that nest or migrate through the area, so the plan here is to look, walk and take photos, not to swim.

- There are no bars or shops near the viewpoints: bring water and something to eat if you plan to stay over an hour.
- The car park at kilometer 26 of the CM-4000 has limited capacity; on autumn weekends, when most people come for the sunset, it is worth arriving with time to spare.
- The area is a protected natural site: staying on the marked trails and away from unfenced cliff edges is required.
How to pair it with another plan
The Barrancas are just over half an hour from the estate, from Toledo and from Puy du Fou, which makes it easy to combine them with the city or the park on the same day. They are the natural stop on the scenic route to Puy du Fou along the CM-4001 local road, through La Puebla de Montalbán and with Malpica castle at the start of the drive. With Toledo, for instance: lunch in Toledo, an afternoon walk along the ecological trail, and back to the estate just in time for sunset — which you get to enjoy twice, first over the ravines and again on the way home. For a group with young children, it's enough to reach the Mirador del Cambrón: the most famous view is only two kilometers each way, so there's no need to complete the full route.
FAQ
Can you swim in the Castrejón reservoir?
No, boating and swimming are restricted to protect the birds that nest and migrate through the area.
Which is the best viewpoint to visit with the group?
The Mirador del Cambrón is the best known and only two kilometers from the car park; the Mirador de los Enebros requires a bit more walking.
Is it accessible for reduced mobility?
The main viewpoints are adapted; the rest of the trail is a dirt path.
Is there shade along the way?
There is barely any natural shade over most of the ecological trail, so it is best to avoid the middle of the day in summer and bring plenty of water.
